Learn how to make and customize Minecraft shields. Shields are a state-of-the-art defensive tool that aids in pixelated combat. They can be used instead of blocking with blades. Minecraft shields cannot be upgraded, so they are one-size-fits all. However, you can customize them using a Minecraft banner.
If an incoming attack exceeds this value, the shield will take damage equal to the strength of the attack. You can use Minecraft shields to deflect some incoming attack, including arrows which will ricochet and deal injury back at the enemy who fired them, and melee combat that will knock an opponent backwards.
Blocking with the shield prevents all damage effects from a ranged attack. Except for explosions which reduce to one block, knockback from melee attacks and projectiles is negated. These tips will show you how to make, customize, and enchant your shield using Minecraft.
You will need these seven ingredients to make a Minecraft shield:
6x Wood planks1x Iron Ingot
Place six wooden planks in a Y-shaped shape in your crafting grid, then place the iron ingot in the top slot. You can repair a damaged shield by using an anvil or by combining two shields from your crafting grid.
Your newly created Minecraft shield can be used to defend against enemies and other players. Your shield should be in the off-hand slots. Once equipped, you can quickly access it using the Java Edition right-click function. You can also crouch in Bedrock Edition to block any incoming attacks. However, your movement speed will be greatly reduced if you crouch.
An axe attack is the shield's weakness. The blow will cause your shield to deactivate for five second, leaving you vulnerable to any incoming attacks. Your shield can be used to block the following attacks in Minecraft:
- Melee attacks
- Arrows (without piercing enchantment).
- Fireballs
Tridents
- Snowballs
Thorns
Explosions
TNT (not ignited either by you or by a redstone mechanism).
- Non-magical projectiles
- Guardian/elder guardian lasers
You can use your newly-crafted Minecraft shield to defend yourself against melee attacks by hostile Minecraft mobs and prevent ranged damage. You can also quickly recover using enchantments or repair your shield.
You can enchant shields using a Minecraft anvil, or enchantment tablet. These enchantments can also be applied to shields.
